The Work of Geotechnical Monitoring

Geotechnical Monitoring deals in examining the subsurface i.e. the behavior of earth metals. It is a branch of civil engineering and employs the ideology of rock and soil mechanics to explore the subsurface materials and conditions. The area of interest covered under Geotechnical Monitoring includes the menace posed by specific earthworks, site geo location, structure foundations etc.

The work of geotechnical monitoring includes the investigation of soil and bedrock to determine their properties. It is done to investigate any kind of risk to life, environment and property. The danger may include landslides, earthquakes, soil liquefaction, sinkholes, rock falls etc. This type of geotechnical engineering also determines the type of foundations, earthworks that is required for the site to be built on the basis of bedrock and soil characteristics.

When there is any type of constructions, the load is transferred to the earth. Therefore it is important that foundations are constructed for the buildings or any other sites like bridges, small structures, commercial buildings etc.
